In a groundbreaking move to enhance road safety, the Sri Lanka Police introduced the eTraffic software on January 1, 2025, under the Clean Sri Lanka national program. The initiative was unveiled at the police headquarters by Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr. Priyantha Weerasuriya, as part of a national effort to reduce road accidents and enforce traffic laws.
eTraffic is an innovative mobile and web-based solution that allows citizens to report traffic violations directly to the police. The app empowers the public to take photos or upload videos of reckless drivers and vehicles on the road. These submissions are monitored by the operations room at police headquarters and forwarded to the appropriate investigative units for further action.
To use the software, citizens can visit the official Sri Lanka Police website (www.police.lk) and access the e-service section to download the application or the PVC extension via the link: https://www.police.lk/?page_id=647.
This initiative encourages active citizen participation in creating safer roads by holding law-breaking drivers accountable. It is expected to significantly reduce traffic violations and foster a culture of responsibility among motorists.
The launch of eTraffic reflects the Sri Lanka Police's commitment to leveraging technology to improve road safety. With the increasing number of traffic accidents in the country, this software serves as a vital tool in promoting compliance with traffic laws and safeguarding lives.
Citizens are urged to participate in this initiative and contribute to the national mission of reducing traffic-related incidents. By empowering the public with this user-friendly tool, the Sri Lanka Police is paving the way for a safer and more responsible driving culture.
