Commercial Bank of Ceylon, Sri Lanka's largest private sector bank, has announced the appointment of cricketing sensation Matheesha Pathirana as the Brand Ambassador for its ComBank Debit Card portfolio. Renowned for his exceptional speed and agility, Matheesha is the perfect fit for the brand, which boasts the largest debit card base in the country.
At just 22 years old, the right-arm fast bowler has made a name for himself on both local and international stages. Representing Sri Lanka and the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Matheesha’s skill and dedication make him an inspiration to many.
Born in Kandy and educated at Trinity College, Matheesha’s achievements include representing Sri Lanka in 12 One-Day Internationals with 17 wickets and an impressive T20 record of 28 wickets in 17 matches. His IPL performance under the mentorship of the legendary M.S. Dhoni has further solidified his reputation, with 34 wickets at a remarkable strike rate of 13.2 for the Chennai Super Kings.
Commercial Bank’s debit cards, available in Visa, Mastercard, UnionPay, and LankaPay (JCB) brands, are internationally valid and designed for convenience in both physical and online transactions. They cater to a diverse customer base, including youth, women, and senior citizens, offering seamless payment solutions in over 7,000 outlets in Sri Lanka and worldwide.
The official agreement was signed in the presence of key figures from the bank, including Managing Director/CEO Sanath Manatunge, Chief Operating Officer S. Prabagar, and Deputy General Manager – Retail Banking & Marketing Hasrath Munasinghe, alongside the cricket star himself.
