VTA Diploma Awarding Ceremony 2024: Building a Skilled Workforce for Sri Lanka
The Vocational Training Authority of Sri Lanka (VTA) celebrated its annual Diploma Awarding Ceremony on December 27, 2024, at the prestigious Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH). This grand event honored 761 graduates who successfully completed NVQ Level 5 and 6 Diploma programs across 18 technical and professional fields.
Under the esteemed patronage of the Hon'ble Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, and the Honorable Deputy Minister Naleen Hewage, the ceremony highlighted VTA's vital role in empowering Sri Lanka's youth with professional education. Guided by the Ministry of Education’s Vocational Training Division, the VTA continues its mission of developing skilled professionals to meet the demands of both local and global job markets.
The VTA, Sri Lanka's largest government institution for public sector vocational training, boasts a robust network of over 193 training centers across all districts, producing more than 35,000 professionals annually. For 29 years, the VTA has provided opportunities for young individuals who lack access to higher education, enabling them to build prosperous careers in diverse industries.
Diplomas were awarded in highly sought-after fields such as Automation and Robotic Technology (NVQ Level 6), Fashion Design Technology (NVQ Level 6), and Information and Communication Technology (NVQ Level 5). Other fields included Automobile Technology, Construction Technology, Mechatronics, Welding Technology, and Cosmetology, all aligned with the latest industry standards and innovations.
The ceremony was conducted under the supervision of key officials, including the Acting Honorary Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of VTA, Mrs. Samanthi Senanayake, and Major General (Retired) Priyantha Weerasinghe, the Director General of VTA.
