Mr. Iyer extended his congratulations to the newly formed government and reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to supporting the “Clean Sri Lanka” program. He also assured that all current projects supported by the World Bank would continue as planned.
The discussion focused on the government’s future development plans, including initiatives to eradicate rural poverty, the implementation of a digital identity card linked to the economic digitalization program, and solutions to long-standing issues faced by people in the Northern and Eastern provinces, such as land and housing challenges for estate communities.
President Dissanayake emphasized the government’s prioritization of agriculture, fisheries, tourism, education, and health sectors as part of the nation’s growth strategy.
Mr. Iyer expressed the World Bank’s readiness to engage with a local advisory team to support the implementation of these development plans.
The meeting was attended by Sri Lanka's Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, Minister of Labor and Deputy Minister of Economic Development Professor Anil Jayantha, Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma, and Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake.
