During a discussion with state officials held on November 27 at the Presidential Secretariat, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake issued directives to prioritize immediate relief services for disaster-affected populations. He urged officials to visit affected areas in person, gather accurate information, and deliver assistance, rather than relying solely on technological data.
The President emphasized the need for a strong grassroots-level mechanism to ensure effective relief delivery. He instructed authorities to house affected individuals in secure shelters while providing essential food and sanitation facilities. Adequate funds were to be allocated to meet these requirements.
Particular attention was directed to the Northern and Eastern Provinces, which are more vulnerable to adverse weather conditions. Additionally, the President called on education officials to address the mental well-being and challenges faced by students sitting for the Advanced Level examination, implementing appropriate measures to support them.
The discussion also focused on the safety of fishermen currently at sea, with the President directing officials to provide necessary assistance to ensure their safe return. He underscored the importance of delivering quality services to affected individuals and conducting follow-up investigations to gather relevant information about their needs.
